RIP Pistol Pete
We always try and be a place where people gather with friends for laughter, dancin’, good times… sadly, today we woke up to news of Pete Sohren’s passing. We knew him as Pistol Pete, and we’re honored to consider him a friend of the saloon. In 2016 and ’17 we sponsored Pete, and were a part of back-to-back Mint 400 races with him. We can’t thank him enough for letting Hogs be a part of his racing life, and introducing us to that side of the racing world. Here are a few words from our owner Michelle.
“In 2016 we raced in the MINT 400, Lee O’Donnell and Damon Bradshaw were our drivers. Tiffany, Mitch, and I rotated as Co-drivers each doing a full lap. Each lap is about 133 miles. Our vehicle was one of Pistols Pete’s. He and his crew were our training team, and Pit Crew. Tiff, Mitch, and I literally had two days to learn everything we needed to know, and we had only a few hours in the desert the day before the race to each get a short amount of practice. It was the first time any of the three of us had ever done anything like it. We were Pit 191”
“Pete’s crew included, Randy at Pit A. Hightower and Brecken at Pit B. And Pistol Pete and Dave Herman at The Main Pit.”
“We were mistakenly held back from our class at the start of the race and got off to a late start but despite our navigation system going, a flat tire and losing both doors, we came in 2nd place in our class, and 52nd overall, in our first race ever! That entire week was filled with great memories with Pete and his crew and I’m just happy we all had a chance to get to know Pete and his family.”
“It is so sad to have lost him and and our love and concern go out to all of his family and friends.”
Thank you for sharing Michelle… I’m sure there are millions of amazing stories out there about Pete. If the word “Pistol” is part of your nickname, chances are you’re badass, and have done some cool shit.
Wherever you may be this weekend, throw a drink in the air – cheers to the one and only Pistol Pete.
